One line
You’re thirty. Ish. It is 1991. Your father is twenty-nine.
Short description
Comedy turn-based tactics about the post-Soviet nineties. Denis sells childhood-in-a-box to people who moved abroad, until three babushkas on a bench take him at his word. He wakes up in 1991. His father is twenty-nine, his mother twenty-eight, and Denis himself is ten months old and screaming.
About the game
Denis is in his thirties and sells nostalgia boxes to people who moved abroad: dried bagels, bubble gum with inserts, and a postcard that says “Dad. Reliable. Real. Always there.” Home for his mum's birthday, he films an ad in the old yard and says one sentence too many in front of three babushkas on a bench: “The nineties. When everyone was still young.” The babushkas take him at his word.
He wakes up on the same bench in 1991, still in his thirties. Swan Lake is playing in every window. His dad is twenty-nine, an army captain who politely calls him “comrade” because Denis is older. His mum is twenty-eight. Denis himself is ten months old and screaming in a pram by entrance three.
Denis can't fight. He stands at the back, tells everyone where to hit, and attacks with words that don't exist yet. The rest of the yard fights by the Law of the Yard: Swagger beats Muscle, Muscle beats Street, Street beats Swagger. And three babushkas on the bench see everything. They are your save system, your undo button and your reputation.
Features
- The Law of the Yard: Swagger beats Muscle, Muscle beats Street, Street beats Swagger. Turn-based tactics at real scale: one tile is a metre, a Lada is four.
- Words as weapons. Denis can't fight, so he attacks Faith, not armour, with words that won't exist for another thirty years. Nobody knows what “red flag” means, which is why it hurts.
- Neighbours jump in. Stand shoulder to shoulder and your mates pile in. Nobody fights alone in this yard.
- The babushkas on the bench are the save system and the undo button. Bad move? They pull a stitch out of the scarf they're knitting you, and time goes back a turn.
- Courage, then chaos. Fill up on swagger and spend it on super moves, from “Cringe” to a leap off the garage roof, paratrooper style.
- Brine, sparks and broken glass. A jar of pickles leaves a puddle. An iron on an extension cord electrifies it. Plan accordingly.
